My name is Nicole Tattersall and I am working on my Master's in Public Health. I had applied for the joint MPH/Community Health DNP program, but was informed a few months ago that the U had to suspend enrollment of new students into the DNP program due to budgetary cuts. I am hoping that a new cohort will begin next Fall, so I have started the MPH portion and am taking this class (one of the requirements of the DNP).
Infomation management is a crucial part of our everyday lives - whether it's our personal, professional or educational realm. I don't think anyone would think that our dependence on and utilization of technology will decrease at all in the future; I think it is a no-brainer to say that it will only increase from here. Thus, it is important that we, as graduate students, learn the current technologies in our fields, as well as look to the future to improve those technologies.
I currently work in critical care research in the Department of Pediatrics at the U. I am a non-typical nurse; I sit at a computer all day. My reliance on IT is staggering; I use about 10 different databases/software programs each and every day to extrapolate patient data that is relevant to my study. We just (two days ago) converted to a new data entry system, which is used primarily by research nurses in the 34 PICUs around the country in which our study is occurring.
